New Year – New Raids

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Another year, another set of bosses to badger. But first, let’s start off with a missing downing from before Christmas – Lord Marrowgar. On the 17th of December, a highly trained team of Badgers travelled to the Lich King’s den to start chewing on his various bones. We had the tactics fresh in our heads and after a few tries, they were cemented in our feet as well, dodging flames and flying bones as if we had always been doing it.

Lord Marrowgar: Cord of the Patronizing Practitioner (Vindicara), Citadel Enforcer’s Claymore (Horacio)

Out with the old, onto the new. The first raid of 2010 was an easy start with Onyxia, immediately followed by a Trial of the Crusader on the 5th of January. We’ve got these raids down to a brisk stroll by now, so let’s get down to the purples.

Another week, another bag of spoils. And speaking of bag of spoils, our first victim this week was the loot piñata herself – Onyxia. Not much more can be said about her than we already have, so let’s get down to the spoily bits.

Onyxia: Dragonstalker’s Helmet (dissed), Frostforged Helmet (dissed), Antique Cornerstone Grimoire (Bendith), Enlarged Onyxia Hide Backpack (Joneleth), Ashen Sack of Gems (Kamaria), Head of Onyxia (Kamaria)

‘Nother Week, ‘Nother ‘Nub

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Wednesday started off in good spirits with a fresh run to the Trial of the Crusader, following our last week’s magnificent clear. In true Badger fashion, we started off the Beasts with a could-have-been-legendary try – having lost half the group to the worms, the remaining half managed to kill Dreadscale on its own, before proceeding to Icehowl. Half became fewer as we lost one or two during the fight, including one violent hug which sent the yeti into a fit of rage. Still, that didn’t finish us off and he needed to resort to his enrage timer to break us down. To nearly 40% did we get him, and while I think we all knew we wouldn’t get him down, we put on a good show of strength to keep it going until the enrage.

Second try was smooth as silk, though I may or may not have neglected to move away from Icehowl’s last charge. At only 20k health left, I (falsely) assumed he would never reach the wall. Woops.

Anub’arak Annihilated!

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

This is a lengthy, long-winded tale of our first clear of Trial of the Crusader, as seen through my subjective goggles. If you’re only interested in the loot and the end result, you may want to read the raid week write-up instead.

The winds were icy and the snow falling thick on Wednesday evening as the heroes of the Badgers made their way to Icecrown and the Argent Tournament to take on the challenges set forth by Tirion Fordring and his knights. Surprisingly, well inside the Coliseum, it was warm and dry, even with no roof – maybe the Argent Crusade built this Coliseum on a natural hot spot, I thought to myself..

First blood x3

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Welcome to the first of the weekly raid reports to be gracing the front page, and what a week to start it off with!

On the first day of this reset, we went to Trial of the Crusader, by now a familiar place of two fairly easy encounters followed by a brick wall. With lasers. We went in with our heads held high and – after some worm wrangling worries – chopped, carved and conjured our way through the beasts and the demon. Up next were the Faction Champions. Auldyn quickly locked the door and started the encounter to prevent his wife from escaping, then pushed Terra into the Horde. We iterated and tweaked our tactics, and on the 4th try we succeeded where we previously had faltered. An excellent effort from everyone.

We also decided to try the Twin Val’kyr, after a short tactics break. After a few attempts, it was starting to get late, but we also seemed to have grasped the encounter. After some persuasion, we decided to go for a last try, and that was the only try we needed. Another guild first, and this night goes down in the history books as a good one. As a thank you for our efforts this night we received:

Roadblock Cleared – Please Proceed!

Mimiron Downed

Every now and again in everything you do you will encounter a “road block”.  In recent time ours has been a certain mechanical gnome by the name of Mimiron.  Don’t be misled by his “cute” appearance, this little chap is mean and packs a punch!

The evening started much like any other………. Some were busy gathering Gems, Ammo, Elixirs, Buff foods and Scrolls for the upcoming raid, whilst others were shoving their guests out of the house as fast as possible, Suzy was AFK whilst she checked up on the latest fruit related social gathering and Vindicara was just tucking in to the 3rd course of his 18th century style evening meal.  You could say it was an ordinary Tuesday evening.

Before Vindicara had the chance do digest his Raspberry Meringue Roulade the group was assembled and began to gather outside Ulduar as we prepared to do battle once more with The Keepers of Ulduar, our first confrontation being with Mimiron.  The cute and cuddly Mimiron, the most recent tormentor of the Badgers joining the short list of “Progress Stoppers” of the past.  Sure we could’ve started easy with the now farmable Hodir or Thorim, but we are the Badgers we laugh at easy, hence why we like to make things difficult for ourselves all the time!
